Dance Movement Therapy with Groups
What is DMT?
Dance/ Movement Therapy is a specialized psychotherapeutic method that uses movement and creative expression to further socio-emotional, cognitive and somatic integration. This approach is based on the principle that the body and mind are integrated. It helps in self-expression to bring about a change in the total functioning of an individual.
There are several ways in which movement therapy can be beneficial to individuals, depending on their needs and goals.
Following are some of them:
-
Explore links between thought, feelings and actions
-
Explore self expression
-
Explore imagination, abstraction and creativity
-
Explore self-awareness, self-esteem and personal autonomy
-
Explore social and communication skills
-
Explore leadership skills

Different from a Dance Class

Movement Therapy attempts at providing a safe space to those seeking it to explore their emotional, social and physical selves through their authentic movement styles. There is no choreography or uniform structure to movements as one would find in a dance class.
Movements are drawn from those seeking it, in sync with the needs that they enter the space with. The role of the facilitator is to guide the exploration and the rest of the journey is that of the participants.
NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN DANCE AND MOVEMENT REQUIRED!
